Accessibility at The Sanctuary

As the Sanctuary continues to grow and upgrade our 100+ year-old space, accessibility remains paramount.

We strive to create an inviting, comfortable space for all our guests. If you have any questions or requests regarding an upcoming visit to our venue,  please don't hesitate to let us know by completing this form or contacting us directly, and we will connect with you ASAP to make sure your time at The Sanctuary is a great one!

Here is some additional info about our space that you may find helpful as you plan your visit.

Arriving:

Parking: Parking in our rear lot can be reserved (limited availability) at no charge for those with accessibility requirements. Please note, however, that there is a steep incline (and decline on return) along Victoria Road, leading to the theatre entrance on Ochterloney Street.

Street parking is available in front of the theatre on Ochterloney Street. Unfortunately, the curb is not cut directly in front of the building; we recommend parking closer to (or on) Dundas Street to avoid crossing the steep incline of Victoria Road. There are sidewalks on both sides of Ochterloney Street.
When arriving in a vehicle with a transport-to-curb ramp, you can use the loading zone to arrive directly at our theatre doors. Send us a message before the event, and we will reserve that space for you.

Sanctuary Theatre: Our Sanctuary Theatre and Theatre Annex can be accessed via a ramp at the front (Ochterloney Street) entrance. These rooms include access to an accessible washroom, various accessible seating options, and food and beverage service delivered directly to your seats.

Entrance: Currently, we do not have power doors installed at the building; however, you will find a call button at the top of the ramp to dispatch our Front of House manager. This individual will welcome you in and escort you to one of the reserved sections for you to enjoy the performance; don't hesitate to let any member of our team know if you have any questions or requests.

Theatre Washrooms: The accessible washroom for the Sanctuary Theatre can be found at the front of the theatre, to the left of the stage. The first (far left) private washroom is sized and outfitted as an accessible space. However, it does not have an automatic door. The washrooms also do not have change tables.

Food and Beverage Service: Our primary bar is located on the lower level of the arts centre. However, guests can have food and beverages delivered directly to their row one of three ways:
1.) Ordering Online at: https://hrmevents.com/Order-Ahead
2.) Scanning the QR code or at the front of their row
3.) Simply speak to our team, and we will gladly assist you with your order.

"Downstairs at the Sanctuary":  In our lower lounge venue, we have several seating configurations that are accessible, and we offer food and beverage service directly to your seats.

Entrance: Our lower performance space can be accessed via a ramp at the Victoria Road entrance (the first grey door at the rear of the building). Unfortunately, this door is not motorized at this time.

Parking: Parking (limited) can be reserved in the rear parking lot.

Please note that this space does not currently offer accessible washroom facilities, and our bar top stands at 4ft tall.
